Criminals Using Facebook

Hired killers in Medellin are finding their clients through Facebook. An account, whose profile expresses affection for Pablo Escobar, has 3,384 “friends.” Such account is also allegedly being used to coordinate cocaine exports, prostitution, extortions, and the subsequent distribution of money and arms. The messages are sent in code.

It is not new for criminals to find one another on Facebook. Mexican authorities have reported that mafia vengeance killings have been organized through Facebook.

Nowadays, even in prison, criminals don’t take a break. Through smuggled Blackberries, thugs keep in contact with their people.

Sadly, this is not the first incident of Facebook used for violent purposes in Colombia. Last summer, a death list of 100 teens was posted on Facebook. Three of them were shot. It prompted some parents to send their kids away to another town.
