Landmines

Yesterday—April 4—was International Landmine Awareness Day.

Some facts:

According to the army, the total number of explosive devices located and destroyed in Colombia in 2011 now stands at 1,504.

In 2010, there were 512 landmine victims in Colombia.

Of the 9132 known victims of landmines, 870 were children. The majority were civilians.

On average, everyday, there is one new victim.
