Today marks the beginning of New York Fashion Week. Flashed front stage in my mind is the story of a group of drug smugglers who molded cocaine into replicas of Manolo Blahnik shoes. Manolos were made famous by Carrie Bradshaw in “Sex and the City,” and a pair can cost more than $800.
The cocaine dust was mixed with a liquid, turned into a paste, molded and painted to look like shoes. Like in the movie Maria Full of Grace, “mules” next transported the Manolos into Spain. Spanish cops busted the gang, five Colombians and one Spaniard, with $630,000 worth of cocaine.
