La Primavera is a Colombian town of under 4000 people, including Sikuanis Indians, in Vichada department. The town and its vicinity are said to be FARC-controlled.
Its residents do not have an electric grid and residents used diesel to run generators.
But Spain’s University of Santiago de Compostela has installed solar panels in a senior center, a community center, dwellings, and artisan workshops. Residents now know how to maintain the batteries and panels.
Similar projects, run by professor Angeles Lopez Aguera, are also being implemented in other towns in Latin America and Africa with the assistance of local universities.
Professor Lopez explained the idea is for renewable energies to aid in alleviating climate change.

Apart from climate change, I hope this will bring education to the people also. FARC must be worried of their subjects learning of other things.
